UPTU Entrance: State govt rejects proposal for new norms By Staff Reporter

The Uttar Pradesh government has rejected the new UPTU entrance exams proposal that sought implementation of new norms for eligibility of candidates as well as the examination marking process. The old norms would continue where there would be no negative marking on wrong answers and it would not be compulsory for candidates to acquire 60 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in their school passing (intermediate) exams.

The government has said that the UPTU entrance exams norms would be exactly like previous years. The forms for applying to appear for UPTU entrance exams this year will be available from February 20.

In a meeting of the Central Admission Board on February 10, the UP government informed that all rules and regulations of the previous year will continue this year as well except that only successful intermediate candidates will be eligible for the entrance. Only those candidates opting for management quota will have to score 50 percent in (PCM) in their intermediate exams.

However, the government has put a condition that the candidates should not fail in any one of the PCM subjects in their intermediate exams. Until last year, even if the candidate failed in one subject, he was considered pass based on overall result.

The government also rejected the proposal of 8 papers for the entrance in place of the existing 12. The cut off percentage for both the general and backward category students would be 25 percent.

Important dates:

•    Last date of sending application forms by post is March 05
•    Last date for submitting forms is March 15
•    Results would be declared on May 31
