In a move to improve its quality of technical education, the UP Technical University (UPTU) plans to form a club of educationists, industrialists and bureaucrats. The purpose is to take innovative decisions in this direction. The proposed club will be titled “Friends of UPTU”.
Over 100 educationists, industrialists and bureaucrats from across India have been celled upon by the university to participate in the seventh Convocation scheduled for December 22. At the same time, the alumni of the affiliated colleges have also been invited to form an 'UPTU Alumni Association'.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Kripa Shanker informed that 45 well-known industrialists, bureaucrats and faculties from the IITs have been listed to join the ‘Friends of UPTU’. Various industrialists have been contacted by Kripa Shanker during a meeting of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Lucknow a few days ago.
On the matter of the tasks of these members, Kripa Shanker informed that they will provide ideas for reforms like changes in curriculum and new mediums of teaching as a think tank.
After the completion of courses, the students will be helped by these industrialists in their practical training, internships and placements related issue. The bureaucrats will lend information and share their experience to facilitate students to learn about administrative decisions.
The university urgently needs to bring in a major overhaul in the quality of teaching to enable the students to get jobs during the slowdown, the vice-chancellor said.
The university has asked for a list of students from affiliated colleges for the alumni association. The alumni with a position of repute in engineering and management related fields will form the core of the association to motivate students further, the vice-chancellor said.
Amid a long-list of overhauls, this years’ convocation is set to get a facelift.
As per the plan, a function would be hosted for the toppers of various courses during the convocation that will enable the meeting of students with the vice-chancellor and other dignitaries.
The 2009 graduates with scores of 70 per cent or above in the undergraduate courses have been informed to attend the ceremony, where former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will be the chief guest.
