The tightening of visa rules and the change in UK’s immigration policy had become a cause for concern for Indian students lately. However, statements from  David Willetts, UK's minister for universities and science, might bring smiles to the brightest brains as the minister welcomes the best brains from the country.

Aiming to bring about some major qualitative changes in order to improve the standard of education in the country; the UK has introduced some stringent measures in the immigration policy as well as visa rules. However, according to Willets the country is looking forward to have the best students from India studying at the leading British varsities.

Addressing the concern of Indian students, Willets said:

“At every stage, the aim is not to stop the best students to study in the UK. The problem we are trying to tackle is of colleges that sometimes do not have a proper education framework and exploit people from abroad by giving them the impression that they are getting high quality British education. But that's not always the case.”

The UK government’s new visa rules will aim at ensuring that Indian students coming to the country for serious education get admission in accredited colleges and are not fooled or exploited in any way.

Willets also informed that the government does not want the education system to be abused. Instead it wants the foreign students coming to the country to get quality education against the fee they pay.

UK government is also working on plans to ensure more British post-graduate students to opt for courses like MSc and PhDs in Indian varsities. The number of British students in India is far less as compared to the number of Indian students studying in the UK. While there are just around 500 British students studying in India; there are over 40,000 Indian students in the UK.

With the Foreign Universities Bill expected to become a law soon; the Indian government too expects to have tie-ups with British Universities. The MHRD minister Kapil Sibal has also approached the UK government to establish links between one of their top universities and the 14 world-class innovation universities to have a link to a British university. UK too is working in the direction and according to Willets already has some leading universities from the UK showing interest to develop a link.
