There are government departments in the country who want entry in the social science text books of CBSE. The departments such as the military and paramilitary forces as well as industry bodies, have urged the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to include their work as a lesson in students' social science textbooks so that the young generation get inspirations. However, academics have argued against this on the ground that it may make the syllabus more burdensome. The Board is yet to arrive on any decision regarding the requests.
Departments like Income Tax Department and the armed forces have pressurized the CBSE to include their work as part of the social sciences syllabus. The army has urged HRD Minister Kapil Sibal to integrate the contributions of the Indian armed forces as part of the schools curriculum. Recently a committee had been set up to incorporate road safety as part of the school social science syllabus by the CBSE.
