Students eyeing the engineering, MBA, MCA and pharmacy courses in Mumbai and the rest of the state will have to let their patience be tested a bit longer before they get admission to the desired courses of their choice this year. This is because the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to show the red signal to admission proceedings in Maharashtra for some more time.

The admission process for all these courses has come to a stand still as DTE is awaiting clarification from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), regarding details of all the new colleges it has approved this year and the variation on intake of students in the existing colleges under AICTE.

Speaking on the matter, SK Mahajan, director, DTE said:

“Currently there is no clarity on new colleges and intake variations. We have asked AICTE to makes things clear and are expecting a response in the next two-three days. Once the clarification comes, we will issue a notification, which may be by the end of this week or beginning of next week. Till then, admissions are halted.”

It is likely that the admission procedure will not begin before August as the AICTE is late in giving out the list of approved colleges this year. Normally the list is out by June end.  However, this year, even the admission schedule has not been released till now, contrary to the fact that classes already begin in colleges by this time of the year.

Although, the AICTE has approved 116 new colleges in Maharashtra, their details are unclear as is the distribution of student intake. As a result the DTE has decided to wait a few more days, till further notice, in order to avoid any anomaly in future.
