As the world economies wriggle out of the terrifying clutches of recession, business schools across India are already making preparations to welcome a much larger number of companies for campus placements and job opportunities. Sending out double the number of invitations they did in the previous two years the B-Schools are quite optimistic about the placement season this year.
While the schools are sending out open invitations to all prospective recruiters around the globe, campus presentations by recruiters are expected to begin by November this year and the placements are likely to be announced by March next year.
While the year 2008-2009 was that of tough times for all concerned, the coming year is expected to bring good news. Recession saw many top names close shutter and others were forced to shunt out staff. Even salary packages, at which students were hired, fell by 20percent – 30 percent at least.
However, world markets are recovering and so is the job market. The business schools in their bid to gather more and more recruiters for their campus placements are reaching out to non profit organisations, planning commission, the UN and NGOs as well.
In addition to the traditional hirers, the B-schools are also inviting venture capital firms, private equity players and some smaller unknown forms as well. For this they are even counselling students as many are not ready to join unknown names to begin their career with.
The main aim of the schools is to attract as many hirers as possible. The reason is clear; even though the situation is improving companies are not ready to recruit larger numbers yet. Therefore, more the companies more shall be the placements.
