    Salary of the faculty of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and four other medical institutes of excellence will be at par with those offered in IITs and IIMs. A decision in this regard was taken by the Union Cabinet on Tuesday. From this parity of pay scales, as much as five reputed medical institutes’ staffs are supposed to get pay benefits.

    In a shocking incident, two research students have lost their lives due to serious fire case while working on a project. The incident took place inside the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) complex in Chembur in north-east Mumbai. Both the students were burnt alive in a fire that broke out in the building housing a chemical laboratory inside the BARC complex.

    Australia is set to suffer huge financial losses in the wake of recent attacks on Indian students. There will be 4,000 fewer Indians coming to Australia to study next year. The Tourism Forecasting Committee has predicted a fall of more than 20 per cent in terms of arrival of students compared to this year.

    Community colleges are going to be more in numbers in the days to come. IGNOU has chalked out proper plans to add to the existing number of ‘community’ colleges in the country. The number of such colleges is set to increase more than three times to the present ones. From the existing 160 such colleges, 500 would be the precise number of community colleges across the country in next two years.

However, the state police have firmly banned the march as it involves a complete shutdown in the region on 30 December.

    According to a recent survey by IDC, which ran across 111 engineering colleges of the country, IIT Kharagpur has been ranked as the best tech school in India in the list. While IIT Delhi followed close behind at the second position, the yearly survey also saw seven National Institutes of Technology also figuring out in the best 30 technical education institutions.
